Around Alberta and Sled Island’s Past and Future

In music on June 22, 2011 at 8:20 pm

We Played Frogfest last weekend out in Rocky Mountain House. It was our triumphant return to being a band after Mel’s wanderings, and we are reaping the benefits of tour, its nice to feel tight and in control even after a break of three weeks. If was a wet and wild weekend in the forest, with music atop a ten foot stage, raging bonfire and fireworks shooting off periodically though the night. It was good to see our friends from  the Calgary community, even if some of them were obviously seeing double. Our friends from Thunderwolf Mountain also drove out from Langley, Danny and I hope to head out to their little festival at the Dead Flowers Cabin at the end of August.

We played at the Brixx bar last night in Edmonton with our good friends Red Cedar and their tourmates Minto. For a tuesday night it was pretty great. Nice to go for a little mid-week adventure and a bit of a Sled warmup.

Speaking of Red Cedar, it was them, and Sleepy Sun that we shared the stage with last year at the Telus world of Science. It has proved the beginning of a good friendship between us and some like minds in Vancouver. Its interesting to reflect on what has happened for us since that show, the many miles traveled.

This year our show is FREE. We are playing the saved by Vinyl BBQ at the Palomino along with Camp Radio, C’mon, Rae Spoon, Mark Davis and  Jon McKiel. So those of you who often wait till the wee hours can come of down in the afternoon for smokey meat and tasty licks.
